When I'm 64

Written by Paul when he was only 16, but with a definite 1920's vibe. Showing some people are just naturally very talented. When I'm 64 most likely wound up on Sgt. Pepper's because Paul's dad was 64 that year. A lovely clarinet arrangement and harmony by George Martin too, who gave so many Beatles tune a classy, classical and classic sound.

G                                                                      D7
When I get older, losing my hair, many years from now,
                                                                    G
will you still be sending me a Valentine, birthday greetings, bottle of wine?
                                                 G7     C
If I'd been out 'till quarter to three, would you lock the door?
                 D#7  (3334) G                     E7   A7
Will you still need me, will you still feed me, when
 D7       G         D7 G
I'm sixty-four?

Em          D        Em
Hmm mmm mmm.
Em                B7
You'll be older, too.
Em                      Am            C   D7          G            D7
Aaah, and if you say the word, I could stay with you.

G                                                                              D7
I could be handy, mending a fuse, when your lights have gone.
  G
You can knit a sweater by the fireside, Sunday mornings, go for a ride.
                                                          G7 C
Doing the garden, digging the weeds, who could ask for more?

                 D#7  (3334) G                     E7   A7
Will you still need me, will you still feed me, when
 D7       G         D7 G
I'm sixty-four?

Em        D        Em
Every summer we can rent a cottage in the Isle of Wight if it's not to dear.
Em                B7
We shall scrimp and save.
Em                      Am                  C   D7                G         D7
Ah, grandchildren on your knee, Vera, Chuck, and Dave.
G                                                                         D7
Send me a postcard, drop me a line stating point of view.
                                                                                         G
Indicate precisely what you mean to say, yours sincerely wasting away.
                                                          G7 C
Give me your answer, fill in a form, mine forever more.

                 D#7  (3334) G                     E7   A7
Will you still need me, will you still feed me, when
 D7       G         D7 G
I'm sixty-four?

I'll never fall in love again

Hal David wrote the words to this song and many more modern classics with Bert Bacharach who wrote the music. He was certainly the less known of the two and died only a few months ago aged 91. David also wrote the lyrics to 3 Bond movie themes including my favourite "We have all the time in the world".

Here's a youtube of someone covering it on ukulele in the same key: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vdyp-tL0ZMU I like this version too by Deacon Blue: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpi7r7TTxGU

Bacharach and Elvis Costello also performed it in Austin Powers 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ebyc9tJod4E Shagadelic baby, yeah!

For Em7/A and Dm/G just leave the A and G strings open. Em7 is 0202, Fmaj7 I play 5500. Cmaj7 is 0002. Am7 is 0000 and Dm7 is 2213.

C Am7
What do you get when you fall in love
Fmaj7
A girl with a pin to burst your bubble
Em7      Em7/A   A7
That's what you get for all your trouble
Dm7 G7                  F7 C
I'll never fall in love again.

After you do, she'll never phone you
Dm7 G7  F7 C

C      Dm/G C
Don't tell me what it's all about
Dm/G                                   C
'cause I've been there and I'm glad I'm out
Em
out of those chains, those chains that bind you
D7          G
that is why I'm here to remind you

C                            Am7
what do you get when you give your heart
Fmaj7
you get it all broken up and battered
Em7 Em7/A A7
that's what you get, a heart that's shattered
Dm7 G7                   F7 C
I'll never fall in love again.
Fmaj7 G                   C
I'll never fall in love again.

C                      Dm/G    C

'cause I've been there and I'm glad I'm out
Em
out of those chains, those chains that bind you
D7         G
that is why I'm here to remind you

C                              Am7
What do you get when you fall in love
Fmaj7
You only get lies and pain and sorrow
Em7 Em7/A A7
So for at least until tomorrow

We are young

F
Give me a second I, I need to get my story straight,
   Dm7
My friends are in the bathroom getting higher than the Empire State,
   Gm7
My lover she is waiting for me just across the bar,
               Bb                                                     C
My seat's been taken by some sunglasses asking 'bout a scar, and

F                                                         Dm7
I know I gave it to you months ago;    I know you're trying to forget.
       Gm7
But between the drinks and subtle things, the holes in my apologies, you know,
Bb                                    C
I'm trying hard to take it back

                    Gm              Am
so if by the time the bar closes
              Dm        Am/C    Bb
and you feel like falling down
     Bb        C
I'll carry you home

[Sing chorus twice]

   F      F   Am/E       Dm
To-night, we  are   young
                                        Bb
So let's set the world on fire;

we can burn brighter
               F/C      C
than the sun

      F
And I know that I'm not all that you got
Dm                                                                       Gm
I guess that I, I just thought, maybe we could find a ways to fall apart
                         Gm
But our friends are back, so let's raise a toast
Bb                          C
Cause I found someone to carry me home

   F      F   Am/E  Dm
To-night, we  are   young
         Dm      Dm/E     Bb
So let's set the world on fire;
            Bb
we can burn brighter
               F/C   C
than the sun

F                Bb
Carry me home to-night
F                C
Carry me home to-night
F                Bb
Carry me home to-night
F                C
Carry me home to-night

(the following is sung over the part above)

F                          Bb
The moon is on my side,    I have no reason to run
F                           C
So will someone come and carry me home tonight.
F                          Bb
The angels never 'rived,    but I can hear the choir
F                           C
So will someone come and carry me home

   F      F   Am/E  Dm
To-night, we  are   young
         Dm      Dm/E     Bb
So let's set the world on fire;
            Bb
we can burn brighter
               F/C   C
than the sun

             Gm           Am
so if by the time the bar closes
        Dm        Am/C    Bb
and you feel like falling down
     Bb        C       F
I'll carry you home... tonight
